The KOSPI expanded its gains during trading today (July 3) to reclaim the 8,000 mark.

Due to the sharp rally, a buy-sidecar, which temporarily suspends program buy orders, was triggered.

As of 2:00 p.m. today, the KOSPI stood at 8,044.17, up 396.08 points or 5.18% from the previous trading session.

The index opened at 7,739.75, up 91.66 points or 1.20% from the previous close, but later turned downward and at one point fell to 7,378.10.

However, it shifted to an upward trend during the session and expanded its gains, recovering the 8,000 level around 1:40 p.m.

It has continued to increase its gains since then.

Amid the rapid surge, a sidecar was triggered at approximately 1:47 p.m. today due to volatility in the KOSPI 200 futures index, suspending the validity of program buy orders for five minutes.

At the time of activation, the KOSPI 200 futures index was at 1,292.54, up 62.78 points or 5.10% from the previous day's closing price.

This marks the first time a KOSPI buy-sidecar has been triggered in six trading days since June 25.

A KOSPI sidecar is triggered when the KOSPI 200 futures price rises by 5% or more from the base price and sustains that level for one minute, suspending program buy orders for five minutes.

Although the KOSPI faced downward pressure overnight as U.S. tech stocks faltered, the index is being pushed upward by a sharp rally in major domestic semiconductor stocks, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, during the session.

Samsung Electronics fluctuated in early trading before expanding its gains to reach the 310,000 won range, and SK Hynix also turned to a sharp rebound after showing a downward trend during the session.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix had plummeted by 9.06% and 14.57%, respectively, the previous day.
