Drunk driving enforcement began on a road in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, last night.
Police even deployed drones to prepare for potential incidents, such as vehicles attempting to flee, while guiding drivers to blow into breathalyzers.
Within 20 minutes of the start of the crackdown, a drunk driver was caught.
[We are going to take a measurement. Please bite down on this firmly and blow hard as if you are inflating a balloon until I say stop. Keep going, keep going. That is enough.]
The blood alcohol concentration was at the level for license suspension.
[Sir, it came out to 0.047%. This is a level that results in a 100-day license suspension.]
[What kind of alcohol did you drink and how much? (About one bottle of beer.)]
At 9 p.m., another drunk driver was caught.
This case was also at the level for license suspension.
[Did you have a company dinner? Or just a meal? (Yes, I had two cans of beer during a meal.)]
The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency conducted the crackdown in busy areas under its jurisdiction for two hours starting at 8 p.m. last night, resulting in a total of 21 cases caught, including 10 license revocations and 11 suspensions.
[Choi Myeong-sik / Chief of Traffic Safety, Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency: To ensure that a happy vacation with your family does not turn into a tragedy in an instant, if you have had even one drink, please do not get behind the wheel and make sure to use a designated driver service or public transportation.]
Anticipating an increase in social gatherings ahead of the summer vacation season, the police plan to continue their drunk driving crackdowns every Friday and Saturday night until the end of next month.
