The Ministry of Health and Welfare has formed a preparatory committee for the establishment of a national graduate school of medicine and held its first meeting today, July 3.

The preparatory committee consists of 10 members, including the committee chair, Lee Hyung-hoon, who serves as the Second Vice Minister of Health and Welfare.

The committee will discuss key issues, including infrastructure, school organization, curriculum, student support, and mandatory service requirements.

To ensure efficient discussions, specialized subcommittees will also operate within the committee for each specific field.

The preparatory committee is scheduled to conclude its operations once the school's governing body completes the registration for the establishment of the national graduate school of medicine and the committee transfers relevant administrative tasks to the university president.

The national graduate school of medicine will be established as a four-year graduate-level institution to train national talent in the field of public healthcare.

Personnel trained through this institution will be required to serve in public healthcare facilities for 15 years after obtaining their medical licenses.

The government aims to open the national graduate school of medicine in 2029 and begin the curriculum in 2030, following discussions by the preparatory committee throughout this year.
