A man in his 30s has been apprehended by police for paying someone to carry out a 'revenge service' after his former partner refused to continue their relationship.

This marks the first time that police have publicly disclosed the arrest of an individual for commissioning a revenge-for-hire crime.

According to police on July 2, the Seoul Yangcheon Police Station has arrested and is currently investigating a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges including abetting trespassing, abetting property damage, defamation, and stalking.

A is accused of hiring someone to commit acts of retaliation in December of last year, which included dumping filth at the front door of his ex-partner B's home and distributing flyers containing false information about the victim.

It is reported that even after B refused to see him in 2024, A continued to engage in stalking behavior, including contacting her and appearing near her, until October of last year.

During police questioning, A denied the allegations of commissioning the revenge service.

However, it is known that the police have secured evidence of the request on A's mobile phone.

The Yangcheon Police Station received the case from the Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, where the incident occurred, and recently requested a pre-indictment arrest warrant for A.

However, as the prosecution has requested supplementary investigation, the investigation is currently proceeding without A being in custody.
