An elementary school student who had been receiving treatment after being severely injured in a collision with a car while riding a swing car inside an apartment complex has passed away.
The Seosan Police Station in South Chungcheong Province announced on Thursday (July 2) that it has upgraded the charges against the driver, a person in their 50s identified as A, from causing injury to causing death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents.
A is accused of hitting two second-grade elementary school boys, including a boy identified as B, who were riding a swing car down a slope on a road within an apartment complex in Jigok-myeon, Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, at 1:59 p.m. on June 28.
Following the accident, B was transported to a nearby hospital in cardiac arrest and underwent emergency surgery. Despite receiving treatment, he passed away at 10:08 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police investigation revealed that because the accident occurred on a weekend, there were many children playing in the apartment complex on swing cars and kickboards.
It was confirmed that there were no security gates to control vehicle access or speed limit signs installed within the apartment complex.
A reportedly stated during police questioning that they "did not see the children."
A police official stated, "We are investigating the exact circumstances by questioning A and officials from the apartment complex."
