England looked shaky from the very beginning of the match.
Just seven minutes into the game, the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Silas Katompa Mvumpa scored the opening goal with a powerful right-footed shot.
Struggling against the opponent's organized defense and unable to create significant attacking opportunities, England did not record their first shot until after the 30-minute mark. Although they created several decisive chances afterward, they were all denied by goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi's impressive saves, ending the first half trailing by one goal.
England remained down 1-0 even through the cooling break in the second half, but they managed a thrilling turnaround in the final minutes.
Ace Harry Kane put on a one-man show.
In the 75th minute, he headed in a cross from Anthony Gordon to score his fourth goal of the tournament, bringing the game to a dramatic tie. Eleven minutes later, he delivered the go-ahead goal as well.
After creating space with a brilliant dribble, he fired a thunderous right-footed shot into the top corner of the net before the defense could close him down.
Thanks to Kane's multi-goal performance, England won 2-1 and successfully advanced to the round of 16.
[Harry Kane / England National Team Forward: I thought it might not be our day after being stopped by the opponent's goalkeeper, but we kept believing and continued to attack until the end. I believed that a hero's moment would come for someone, and I am grateful that I was that hero today.]
England, continuing their quest for a World Cup title for the first time in 60 years, will face Mexico for a spot in the quarterfinals.
