A man in his 50s has been arrested by police for leaving a note threatening arson on a Busan subway train.
The Busan Haeundae Police Station announced that they arrested the suspect, identified as A, at his residence at approximately 9:52 p.m. yesterday (July 1) on charges of leaving an arson threat note on a Line 2 subway train bound for Jangsan. Police are currently investigating the specific motive behind his actions.
A is accused of posting a note on the Line 2 train bound for Jangsan at approximately 3:54 p.m. yesterday, which read, "If the train stops at Mulmangol Station at 5:26 or 5:41 on the Line 3 Yeon-san direction by July 3, I will spray thinner and set it on fire."
The note was discovered on the left side of the passenger car aisle door by a train operator who was changing cabins for a turnaround after the train arrived at Jangsan Station.
The operator immediately reported the situation to the Hopo Crew Office and the central control center.
Following the report, the Busan Transportation Corporation notified relevant agencies, including the police, the National Intelligence Service, and the Busan Metropolitan Government.
In response, the corporation has strengthened safety management by increasing patrols at all stations, requesting cooperation from local police substations near the stations, and deploying safety personnel on the train in question.
