Erling Haaland, the Norwegian striker known as the "goal machine," has continued his scoring streak. With his 5th goal of the tournament, he is now just one goal behind Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé. Norway, having secured its first-ever victory in a World Cup knockout stage, will now face Brazil in the Round of 16.

Reporter Bae Seong-jae has the story.

While Haaland remained quiet during the first half, Norwegian winger Antonio Nusa broke the deadlock in the 39th minute.

After dazzling the defense with his footwork, he fired a powerful curling shot into the back of the net.

The ball traced a beautiful arc before finding the far post.

Côte d'Ivoire, which had been trailing, brought the game back to level terms in the 74th minute with an equalizer from substitute Amad Diallo.

His fantastic dribble followed by a composed finish drew gasps of admiration from the crowd.

Just as it seemed the match was heading to extra time, the hero of the moment was, as expected, Haaland.

In the 86th minute, Haaland converted a precise pass from Patrick Berg with his left foot to score the winning goal.

With 5 goals in this tournament, Haaland is now trailing the joint top scorers, Messi and Mbappé, by just one goal.

[Ståle Solbakken / Norway National Team Head Coach: For a small country like Norway, scoring 5 goals in 3 World Cup matches is something even Haaland himself might not have thought possible. I believe he is the best goalscorer in the world. There is no doubt about it.]

In the final moments of the match, goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland made a brilliant save against a sharp free kick from Diallo, securing a 2-1 victory and giving Norway the joy of its first-ever win in a World Cup knockout stage.

Once again, the Norwegian players and coaching staff gathered on the pitch after the final whistle to celebrate their victory with their fans, performing their signature rowing celebration to the beat of the drums.

Norway will face the Samba stars of Brazil this Sunday for a spot in the quarterfinals.
