Household Loans at Top 5 Banks Rise by 4.1 Trillion Won in June, Largest Increase in 11 Months

The balance of household loans at major commercial banks saw its largest increase in 11 months last month.

According to the financial sector on Wednesday (July 1), the combined household loan balance at the five major banks (KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Hana, Woori, and NH Nonghyup) stood at 774.9608 trillion won at the end of June, an increase of 4.1378 trillion won from the end of May (770.8299 trillion won).

This marks the largest monthly increase since July of last year (+4.1386 trillion won).

The household loan balance decreased by 1.865 trillion won in January of this year, before rising by 52.3 billion won in February.

It then fell by 136.4 billion won in March, followed by increases of 1.567 trillion won in April and 3.5269 trillion won in May.

The balance of mortgage loans reached 615.1456 trillion won at the end of June, up 1.7576 trillion won from May, continuing an upward trend for three consecutive months.

Individual collective loans increased by 860.6 billion won, marking the largest growth in one year and nine months since September 2024 (+1.1771 trillion won).

Individual credit loans rose by 2.155 trillion won, maintaining a growth level similar to the previous month (2.1741 trillion won), which had been the highest since April 2021 (+6.8401 trillion won).

Loans to individual business owners shifted from an increase of 33.3 billion won in May to a decrease of 398.4 billion won in June.

At the end of June, the balance of loans to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the five major banks was 682.7204 trillion won, a decrease of 1.7368 trillion won from the end of May.

This is the first time in six months that SME loans have turned to a decline since December 2025 (-2.9018 trillion won).

Loans to large corporations increased by 4.9285 trillion won, continuing a six-month streak of growth.

While the balance of deposits and savings continued to rise for the second consecutive month, the scale of the increase was smaller than the previous month.

The balance of time deposits reached 949.3998 trillion won, up 4.6837 trillion won from the end of May, and the balance of installment savings increased by 267.7 billion won to 46.9202 trillion won.

The balance of demand deposits, which are considered standby funds, rose by 7.6351 trillion won to 722.2928 trillion won.
