The Military Manpower Administration (MMA) announced today (July 1) that it is launching a multilingual interpretation service to assist individuals subject to military service who have difficulty communicating in Korean during their physical examinations.
The MMA plans to provide interpretation support in a total of 10 languages, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Filipino, by utilizing the interpretation infrastructure of 223 family centers and 12 multicultural family support centers nationwide.
The MMA explained that the multilingual service was introduced to facilitate smooth communication during the physical examination process, as the number of individuals from multicultural families subject to military service has been increasing.
The agency aims to ensure more accurate assessments of the health status of examinees by providing interpretation in areas where precise communication is critical, such as medical history interviews, disease verification, and psychological testing.
"As the number of individuals experiencing difficulties during the military service physical examination process due to language barriers is increasing, we will create a fair examination environment for everyone through customized interpretation services," said Hong So-young, Commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration.
