As the stationary front moves northward, rain clouds are currently affecting the Chungcheong region.
With this, the monsoon season was officially declared for the southern and central regions today, July 1, following the start in Jeju yesterday (June 30).
Heavy rain of around 30mm per hour is currently pouring, mainly in Jeju and parts of South Jeolla Province, where heavy rain warnings are in effect.
In particular, the rain will be intense in these areas until this morning.
The expected rainfall for today is over 120mm in the mountainous areas of Jeju and over 80mm on the coast of South Jeolla Province. Up to 60mm is expected on the coast of the Gyeongsang region, and 5mm to 40mm of monsoon rain is forecast for other southern areas and the southern part of the Chungcheong region.
The central region will also be generally cloudy today, with occasional showers passing through Seoul and northern central areas in the afternoon.
It will remain hot in the central region, where heat wave advisories are still in effect, with temperatures in Seoul and Chuncheon rising to 33°C (91°F).
Monsoon rain is forecast for areas south of Chungcheong on Saturday, for the southern region on Sunday, and for the entire country on Monday.
