U.S. President Donald Trump announced on June 30 (local time) that the Republican Party, the ruling party, will hold a Midterm Convention in Dallas, Texas, on September 10–11 ahead of the November midterm elections.
President Trump shared the news on his social media platform, Truth Social, calling it "Big News!" and stating that it would be "fantastic."
In the United States, political party conventions are typically held during presidential election years to nominate presidential candidates and are not held ahead of midterm elections.
President Trump did not hide his anticipation, describing the event as "the first time in history" and adding, "It has never been done before, and it will be a truly historic event."
President Trump had previously suggested in a Truth Social post last August that the Republican Party should hold a midterm convention, and it appears the plan is now moving forward according to his wishes.
As this midterm election, which will determine the congressional landscape for the latter two years of the second Trump administration, is seen as a pivotal moment that will decide whether President Trump maintains or loses his momentum in state affairs, the convention is expected to be an event that concentrates the party's efforts on highlighting and promoting the achievements of his second term.
President Trump stated, "We will celebrate the incredible success of the American people who have transformed our country through the return of a great America and America First policies," citing key achievements such as tax exemptions on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits, strengthened borders, safer communities, lower prices and true affordability, job growth, and American energy dominance.
He also added, "Oil prices are dropping rapidly even as we denuclearize Iran."
President Trump further remarked, "We are fulfilling the promises that politicians have only talked about for decades but never achieved."
He also emphasized that the convention would be "a rally like no other," adding, "We will celebrate our country, our accomplishments, and our bright future. The Golden Age of America has only just begun."
