As the whereabouts of the suspect who murdered a woman in her 60s in Tongyeong, Gyeongnam, remain unknown nearly three weeks later, concerns are growing over potential disruptions to the investigation due to the spread of a fake suspect photo believed to be AI-generated.

Recently, a photo of a man has been spreading rapidly on social media under the title "Tongyeong Robbery-Murder Culprit."

Although the man in the photo is wearing a hat and a mask, his eyes, eyebrows, and facial contours are relatively clearly depicted.

Some posts even presented the photo as if it were official material released by the police.

It has been confirmed that this image is a composite created using AI technology, which added virtual facial features based on the blurry CCTV footage released at the beginning of the case.

The police have urged caution, stating that the circulation of such unofficial images as if they were factual could cause confusion in the investigation.
