U.S. President Donald Trump has posted an AI-generated image on social media showing a large golden eagle sculpture attached to the balcony of the White House.
On June 29 (local time), President Trump shared the photo of the golden eagle sculpture mounted on the Truman Balcony on the second floor of the White House on his social media platform, Truth Social, with the brief caption, "A golden gift to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the White House."
The White House later shared the post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
CNN reported that an examination of the photo's metadata revealed content authentication information suggesting it was generated by Google AI.
The network also pointed out that the railing of the Truman Balcony in the photo differs slightly from the actual structure and that there are only 11 stars placed on the eagle's body.
The United States typically includes 13 stars in its symbols to honor the original 13 colonies at the time of the nation's founding.
The original version of the photo Trump posted appears to have been taken by freelance photographer Andrew Leyden.
After President Trump posted the image, Leyden uploaded the original photo without the eagle sculpture to his own X account.
Trump's affinity for gold is well-known.
Since returning to office in 2025, he has placed various gold decorations throughout the White House, including large gold commemorative coin-shaped medals in the West Wing, where the Oval Office is located, and in several areas of the residence.
CNN added that it has requested comment from the White House to confirm whether the photo was created using AI.
