The Daegu District Court Criminal Division 12 (Presiding Judge Jeong Han-geun) announced today (June 30) that it has sentenced a man in his 40s, identified as A, to three years and six months in prison for attempted murder and other charges, after he tried to throw his wife from the balcony of their home during an argument.

A was indicted for dragging his wife, B (in her 30s), toward the balcony and attempting to push her out of a window from a height of 7.5 meters (the 5th floor) at their home in Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, on December 9 of last year. The incident occurred after B said she would report him to the police during a dispute over their divorce.

At the time, B managed to hold onto the window frame, sustaining injuries including fractured ribs.

Previously, on October 30 of the same year, A had been issued a restraining order by the court after assaulting his wife at their residence.

The court stated, "We considered that the murder attempt remained at the stage of an attempted crime and that the Defendant stopped the act by pulling the victim, who was holding onto the window frame, back inside," but added, "Even though the crime was not completed, there is a need for strict punishment."
