The Samsung Electronics branch of the Samsung Group Super-Enterprise Labor Union, the largest labor union at Samsung Electronics, has passed a motion to re-elect Chairman Choi Seung-ho.
The union announced today (June 30) that in the electronic vote held during the 4th General Assembly of 2026, 38,336 out of 54,165 eligible members participated, marking a voter turnout of 70.8%. The motion for re-election was passed with an approval rating of 87.5% (33,550 votes).
Following his re-election, Chairman Choi released a statement saying, "We will utilize the Labor Relations Commission's bargaining unit separation system to pursue negotiations for the DS (Device Solutions, semiconductor) division." He added, "Even if the separation is not recognized, we will achieve better results for the DS division through independent negotiations by the Super-Enterprise Union."
He further stated, "We will pursue majority union status while simultaneously securing the position of employee representative by taking control of the Labor-Management Council," adding that "we will begin this process immediately starting in July."
The union plans to launch a policy committee for the DS division to ensure that issues specific to each business unit are reflected in negotiations.
Previously, Chairman Choi had requested a vote of confidence, stating he would take responsibility for the results of this year's wage negotiations.
Last month, a joint bargaining group including the Super-Enterprise Union reached a tentative agreement with Samsung Electronics, which included an average wage increase of 6.2%, the establishment of a special performance bonus, and housing loan programs.
However, dissatisfaction regarding the distribution of performance bonuses led to an accelerated departure of members. Complaints were raised not only by employees in the Device eXperience (DX) division, which handles finished products, but also by staff in the System LSI and Foundry business units within the Device Solutions (DS) division.
The Super-Enterprise Union is primarily composed of semiconductor employees.
At one point during the wage negotiation process, the number of members exceeded 76,000, securing the status of a majority union, but it has recently lost that majority status.
As of 1:00 p.m. yesterday, the current number of members stands at 55,200.
The vote was held from the 24th until 10:00 a.m. today.
A proposed amendment to the union's bylaws, which was submitted alongside the re-election motion, was also passed with an approval rating of 93.2% (35,719 votes).
