The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) and the Seoul Metropolitan Government will conduct a joint campaign throughout July to reduce voice phishing damage.
According to the FSS on Tuesday (June 30), the two organizations plan to carry out a comprehensive promotional campaign, focusing on the elderly who are vulnerable to financial fraud, in densely populated areas such as public transportation and apartment elevators.
First, the city will distribute voice phishing prevention guidelines along with senior citizen transportation cards issued to residents aged 65 and older.
Posters and signs containing tips on how to prevent voice phishing will also be installed at sports facilities frequently used by the elderly, such as the Tancheon Park Golf Course.
Promotions using public transportation will also be strengthened.
Prevention videos will be broadcast on media boards at 10 subway stations with high foot traffic, including Gwanghwamun, Yeouido, Yeouinaru, Sadang, Hapjeong, Hongik University, Chungjeongno, Hoehyeon, Dongdaemun History & Culture Park, and Chang-dong stations.
In addition, the videos will be shown on the internal TVs of 5,000 city buses in Seoul, 20 times a day, for a total of 4.2 million broadcasts over the month.
Customized management will be implemented for the three Gangnam districts—Gangnam, Seocho, and Songpa—where approximately 22% of all voice phishing cases in Seoul were concentrated last year.
The two agencies plan to display the prevention videos 100 times a day in elevators of apartment complexes and mixed-use residential buildings in those areas.
Furthermore, the campaign video will be broadcast on over 100 electronic billboards operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, its affiliated agencies, and financial companies.
The FSS stated, "Through continuous collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, we will ensure that citizens naturally become aware of voice phishing and learn how to respond to it in their daily lives," adding, "Campaign materials will also be promoted through the social media channels of the FSS, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and financial institutions."
