Despite the government's explanation, the People Power Party continues to sharpen its criticism, labeling the decision as a forced move driven by government intervention and an attempt to favor the Honam region. The Democratic Party has pushed back, calling for an end to such outdated regionalism.

Regarding the government's announcement of its "three major mega-projects," the People Power Party dismissed the initiative, claiming that the core was ultimately the "Honam Semiconductor Cluster" and that the other projects were merely "supporting roles" to dilute the appearance of favoring the Honam region.
The party argued that while the government packaged the projects as voluntary investments by summoning heads of major conglomerates, it was actually a case of twisting the arms of businesses. They asserted that this is a declaration of a state-controlled economy where power seeks to take over the market.
[Jung Chung-sik/Floor Leader of the People Power Party: The very fact that two competing major conglomerates are simultaneously announcing large-scale investment plans for the same location is a forced decision resulting from government intervention rather than autonomous business judgment....]
In particular, the party launched an offensive by claiming that the Honam region lacks the necessary infrastructure, such as electricity and water, and demanded that the entire site selection process be thoroughly uncovered through a parliamentary investigation.
Governors, mayors, and lawmakers from the People Power Party representing the Chungcheong, Daegu, and Gyeongbuk regions also held a series of press conferences to voice their opposition.
[Choo Kyung-ho/Mayor-elect of Daegu: This is closer to 'national fracture and development.' It will be difficult to avoid criticism that this announcement was a political decision that once again divides the Yeongnam and Honam regions.]
In response to the People Power Party's relentless offensive, the Democratic Party counterattacked, stating, "This is a result of ignorance that fails to understand the survival strategies of global companies, and it is a malicious attempt to obstruct national growth."
[Han Byung-do/Acting Leader and Floor Leader of the Democratic Party: They are raising objections by bringing up outdated regionalism. The Democratic Party will take legal action without leniency against this malicious smear campaign.]
The Democratic Party also pointed out that during the Yoon Suk Yeol administration in 2023, the Jeonnam-Gwangju region was excluded from the "National High-Tech Strategic Industry Special Complex" competition despite receiving the highest score, and urged the opposition to "stop the old-fashioned politics that drags even national industrial strategies into regional sentiment."
