World No. 4 women's tennis player Jessica Pegula has advanced to the second round of the women's singles at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.

Pegula defeated Daria Vidmanova 2-0 in the first round of the women's singles held at the All England Club in London, England.

Pegula, who has yet to win a major singles title, is aiming for her first major championship at this tournament.

Pegula's best performance at Wimbledon to date was reaching the quarterfinals in 2023.

In the first set, Pegula took a 4-0 lead before allowing a comeback, but ultimately secured the set 7-5. In the second set, she broke her opponent's serve three times to seal the victory in 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Pegula will face Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second round.

Belinda Bencic, who reached the Wimbledon semifinals last year, also advanced to the second round after a 2-0 victory over Mika Stojsavljevic.

Bencic, who is also seeking her first major title at this tournament, finished her first match easily in 1 hour and 6 minutes.

Bencic will meet the winner of the match between Wang Xinyu and Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round.

In the men's singles, 19-year-old Spanish rising star Rafael Jodar defeated Felix Gill 3-0 in 1 hour and 56 minutes in his Wimbledon main draw debut.

Jodar, who was ranked outside the top 500 in the world last year, has been drawing attention as a promising prospect after reaching the quarterfinals of this year's French Open.

Jodar will face Pablo Carreno Busta in the second round.
