The Cheongju Cheongwon Police Station announced on June 26 that it has booked two individuals, including a person in their 70s identified as A, without detention and is investigating them on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act by using a gas torch during the slaughter of a dog.

A and the other individual are accused of hanging a dog from a tree in the yard of their home in Cheongju at 4:00 PM on May 9 and abusing it with a gas torch.

The police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from an animal protection group that had been tipped off about the incident.
