A 70-year-old man has been arrested for a stabbing incident at the Ilmin Museum of Art, located in the Dong-A Ilbo building in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.
The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as A, on charges of attempted murder and preparation for arson. The court held a pre-arrest interrogation starting at 2:00 p.m. today (June 28) and stated that there is a risk of the suspect destroying evidence or fleeing.
A is accused of attacking a 40-year-old acquaintance, identified as B, with a sickle at the Ilmin Museum of Art around 7:50 a.m. on June 26, causing injuries.
Immediately after the crime, A fled by taxi, traveling through Samgakji in Yongsan-gu and Noryangjin in Dongjak-gu, before being apprehended at the residence of an acquaintance in Gwanak-gu.
It is reported that A had been working in cleaning-related duties at the building, and B had also worked at the building before recently submitting a resignation.
The police, who arrested A in an emergency operation approximately 10 hours after the incident, also applied charges of preparation for arson after confirming evidence that A had prepared to start a fire before wielding the weapon.
A appeared in court around 1:00 p.m. today with a cast on his right leg and did not respond to questions from reporters, such as whether he had anything to say to the victim.
