▲ Jeong Han-mil, sole leader after the third round
Jeong Han-mil has positioned himself for his first-ever victory since his debut on the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour at the Gunsan CC Open.
On Saturday, June 27, Jeong carded a 6-under-par 66 in the third round of the tournament, held at the Gunsan Country Club Tournament Course (par 72), recording seven birdies and one bogey.
Following his strong performance in the second round, Jeong continued his momentum in the third, bringing his total to 14-under-par 202 and moving from a tie for the lead to the sole lead.
Kim Min-jun, Kim Seong-hyun, and Kim Hong-taek are tied for second place at 11-under-par 205, trailing Jeong by three strokes.
Jeong, who debuted on the KPGA Tour in 2017 and is still seeking his first title, pulled away from his competitors by racking up five birdies on the front nine alone.
Although he added three more birdies on the back nine to widen the gap, he finished with a bogey on the 18th hole (par 4) after missing the green and facing a par putt from over 10 meters away.
Jang Yu-bin, who is aiming for his third consecutive victory, managed to shave only two strokes off his score with three birdies and one bogey.
Falling to a tie for 6th place at 9-under-par 207, Jang now faces the pressure of trailing leader Jeong by five strokes heading into the final day.
Amateur national team player Yoo Min-hyuk shot a 4-under round to secure 5th place (10-under-par 206 total).
He remains four strokes behind the leader, keeping his hopes for a come-from-behind victory alive.
The most recent instance of an amateur winning on the KPGA Tour was Jang Yu-bin, who won this very tournament in 2023.
