Iran has claimed that it struck targets linked to the U.S. military in response to an attack by the United States.

According to Reuters on June 27 (local time), the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated in a release that day, "The U.S. airstrikes violated the UN Charter and the memorandum of understanding between the two countries to end the war," and announced the retaliatory strikes.

However, the ministry did not provide specific details regarding the targets.

Iran described the attack as "defensive" in nature and warned Gulf nations against allowing the U.S. to use their territory for attacks against Iran.

Tensions in the Middle East are rising again as the two countries have clashed just nine days after signing a ceasefire agreement.

The U.S. struck missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar stations in southern Iran yesterday in response to Iran's attack on a merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran defined the U.S. military's attack as a "violation of the ceasefire" and struck U.S. military bases within the Middle East.
