The full story behind the heated truth battle between a store owner and parents regarding a vandalism incident involving middle school students at an unmanned stationery store in Pohang will be revealed.
The episode of SBS Curious Stories Y airing on the 26th will focus on the hidden side of the recent controversy surrounding juvenile offenders that has set the internet ablaze, as well as the conflicting claims from both sides.
Park (a pseudonym), who runs an unmanned stationery store in Pohang, witnessed a shocking scene while checking CCTV footage recently. A group of middle school students were captured roaming the store as if it were a playground, opening toys without permission, playing with them, and even handling a piggy bank. According to Park, the students damaged 105 items, resulting in approximately 320,000 KRW in damages.
Park, who was bewildered by the incident—the first of its kind in six years of business—became enraged after hearing that the parents of the students involved had acted defiantly, claiming, Our children are juvenile offenders, so they won't be punished. Park eventually reported the incident to the media, and it quickly escalated into a nationwide controversy over whether to teach these juvenile offenders a lesson.
While conducting their investigation, the production team heard the parents' side of the story. While the parents admitted that their children were in the wrong, they argued that store owner Park's response had crossed the line. Furthermore, the production team received new reports from others who claimed to have experienced similar situations with Park in the past.
With both sides standing their ground, the question remains: Is this incident a small business owner's justified anger and attempt to teach these juvenile offenders a lesson, or is it an excessive overreaction fueled by an adult's uncontrolled rage? The truth behind the controversy surrounding the Pohang unmanned stationery store will be unveiled on Curious Stories Y, airing Friday, June 26, at 9 PM.
