The movie 'Moana' has revealed the casting behind-the-scenes of Catherine Laga'aia, who plays the lead role of Moana.

'Moana' is this summer's most dazzling ocean adventure, following Moana, a girl chosen by the ocean, as she sets off into the unknown sea with the legendary hero Maui to save a cursed island. It is a live-action film of the animated 'Moana' films released in 2017 and 2024.

The video released by The Walt Disney Company Korea on June 25 shows the story of Catherine Laga'aia, who was selected for the role of Moana among over 32,000 applicants worldwide, and why she was the clear choice to be the new Moana.

Catherine Laga'aia, who is of Samoan descent, is an actress with a deep connection to the character, as both her grandfather and grandmother are from Savai'i island in the South Pacific and the Samoan Islands, which served as the background for 'Moana'.

In the video, Catherine Laga'aia's appearance alongside Dwayne Johnson's comment, "We found our Moana," boasts a high synchronization rate with Moana and immediately catches the eye. This is followed by Catherine Laga'aia's heartfelt confession, "Telling the stories of the Pacific Islands is something I've always dreamed of," and her joyful reaction upon hearing the casting confirmation, offering a glimpse of her special affection for the project.

Auli'i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated 'Moana' and participated as an executive producer in this live-action film, expressed deep trust in the new Moana, saying, "It is truly a joy to see Catherine make Moana her own. She is an actress who possesses all the charm of the protagonist we have loved."

Director Thomas Kail also stated, "This role had to be Katie. Above all, it was wonderful to see her willingness to dive in and enjoy it," raising expectations for Catherine Laga'aia's performance.
