▲ Citizens use parasols while crossing a street near Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on the 18th, when the first heatwave advisory of the summer was issued for parts of the Seoul metropolitan area.

The Korea Consumer Agency (KCA) tested the quality and safety of 12 types of parasols sold online, finding that all products met the relevant standards.

The products tested included 10 models with blackout features and two standard models.

The test results showed that the blackout products had a UV protection rate of 99.9%, while the standard products ranged from 96.9% to 97.1%.

Regarding light-blocking performance, the blackout products blocked 100% of light, while the standard products showed a light-blocking rate of 95.8% for the navy model and 87.4% for the gray model.

Darker colors were found to have stronger light-blocking capabilities than lighter colors.

All products also met the relevant standards for water resistance, which measures the ability to block rainwater, and spray rating, which measures the ability to repel rainwater.

The weight of the products varied from 121g to 311g, depending on the number of ribs in the parasol.

The Korea Consumer Agency plans to provide information on the quality and safety of consumer textile products through 'Consumer24'.
