Singer Ben has candidly opened up about the reasons behind her decision to divorce after four years of marriage and her feelings on life as a single mother.
Appearing recently on the YouTube channel 'Hyungsoo is K.Will,' hosted by K.Will, Ben spoke calmly about the sense of responsibility she feels raising her four-year-old daughter alone and the process that led to her decision to divorce.
"Raising a child is a joy in itself. My daughter was a good sleeper even as a newborn, and she attends kindergarten now. My biggest concern is just that she doesn't eat very well," Ben said with a smile.
Ben married businessman Lee Wook in 2020 and had a daughter, but ended their marriage last year. She currently has custody of her daughter.
"There are times when life as a single parent feels a bit overwhelming. It's hard enough to live my own life, but I feel a heavy sense of responsibility to pave the way for my child's future as well. I am personally feeling the weight of being the head of the household," she confessed. "I thought I would be happy after having a child, but incidents occurred even during that time. I felt a great sense of betrayal, which was difficult. Although I chose to divorce six months after giving birth, I had actually been struggling with the decision for four to five years."
Regarding the reason for her decision to divorce, Ben explained, "I realized that I would likely be struggling with the same problems even years later. I decided that if that were the case, it was right to end what wasn't working, and I still think that was the right choice." She added, "I was terrified to the point of trembling, wondering, 'Won't people look down on me?' or 'How will they view a single mom who got divorced after having a child?' But I realized that I hadn't done anything wrong, and that it was a choice I made to live a good life."
Ben continued, "Even if you aren't a celebrity, I hope people don't live like sinners just because they are divorced. After sharing my story, I received a lot of support from other single moms in similar situations and fellow celebrities. Being honest actually gave me strength."
Ben also showed an open attitude toward remarriage. Regarding her current life, she stated, "If I meet a good person, I am open to remarriage. I still recommend marriage. I think living together with someone you love is a good thing."
