[Anchor] Is it true that Japanese fans, who were praised worldwide for cleaning up the stands after World Cup matches, are actually facing criticism back home?

[Reporter] Yes, a controversy over what some call a "double standard" has emerged, pointing to a disconnect between their behavior in the stadium and their daily lives.

Immediately following the group stage match between Japan and the Netherlands held at Dallas Stadium in the U.S. on June 19, a group of male Japanese fans voluntarily walked around the stands with blue plastic bags, neatly collecting trash left behind by others.

While this scene was showcased globally as an example of exemplary spectator culture, it was met with cynical reactions within Japan.

Japanese netizens criticized the fans, commenting, "They engage in performative cleaning while ignoring housework," and "Did they leave their wives to handle childcare while they went off to watch the World Cup?" Some even shared satirical illustrations with captions like, "Please, just clean your own homes."

In fact, according to OECD statistics, the average daily time Japanese men spend on household chores is 41 minutes, which is among the lowest of all countries surveyed.
