An undocumented foreign national in possession of illegal drugs was arrested after a fellow restaurant patron reported hearing him discuss the substances with his companions.

The Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi Province has arrested and is investigating a Vietnamese man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges including violating the Narcotics Control Act.

Police also apprehended four other Vietnamese nationals, including a person identified as B, on charges of violating the Immigration Control Act.

A is accused of possessing a small amount of ketamine at a Vietnamese restaurant in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Saturday (June 20).

The incident came to light after another customer at the restaurant heard A and his companions discussing drugs and reported it to the authorities.

Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a 112 emergency call stating, "I heard people at the next table talking about using drugs while I was eating."

Following a search that lasted approximately three hours, police discovered that A was in possession of a small amount of ketamine and confirmed a positive result through a preliminary drug screening test.

While the four companions were found not to be in possession of or under the influence of drugs, two were confirmed to be staying in the country illegally, and the other two were found to be without their passports, leading to their detention as well.

"We are currently investigating how the suspect obtained the ketamine and whether there were any accomplices," the police stated. "We plan to transfer the other individuals to the immigration office."
