Director Yeon Sang-ho's film 'COLONY' has claimed the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office for the third consecutive week.
According to the Korean Film Council's (KOFIC) integrated computer network for theater tickets on June 8, 'COLONY' drew 603,876 viewers nationwide from June 5 to 7. The cumulative number of viewers stands at 4,726,528.
Released on May 21, 'COLONY' surpassed 1 million viewers on its fourth day, 2 million on its fifth day, 3 million on its tenth day, and 4 million on its 14th day. It is now on the verge of hitting the 5 million mark. Although the competing film 'Wild Sing' was released and chased after its reservation rate and daily audience numbers, it failed to become a formidable rival to 'COLONY'.
'Wild Sing' had to settle for second place, drawing 321,190 viewers during its opening weekend.
'COLONY' is set to challenge the 5-million-viewer milestone sometime this week.
