Directors Park Chan-wook, Jang Hang-jun, and Yoon Ga-eun are set to clash once again for the Best Director title.
The three directors will compete for the highest honor, the Best Director Award, at the 24th Director's Cut Awards, which will be held on the 19th.
In the list of nominees announced by the Director's Cut Awards on the 11th, director Park Chan-wook was nominated for "No Other Choice," director Jang Hang-jun for "The King's Warden," and director Yoon Ga-eun for "The World of Love." They will be joined in the competition by director Yeon Sang-ho for "The Ugly" and director Lee Ran-hee for "The Final Semester."
At the Baeksang Arts Awards held on the 9th, director Yoon Ga-eun won the Best Director Award in the film category for "The World of Love." It was a result that edged out strong competitors Park Chan-wook and Jang Hang-jun. Director Park Chan-wook consoled himself for missing out on the Best Director Award that day by winning the Best Film Award, while director Jang Hang-jun had reason to celebrate as "The King's Warden" received the Gucci Impact Award.
With the Director's Cut Awards just 10 days away, the three directors will once again compete for the Best Director trophy. The Director's Cut Awards holds special significance as the nominees and winners are selected directly through votes by directors who are full and associate members of the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK).
It would not be surprising if any of the three were to win the Best Director Award. Director Park Chan-wook’s "No Other Choice" was invited to the competition section of the Venice International Film Festival and also entered the race for this year's Academy Awards. Director Jang Hang-jun achieved the highest box office success with "The King's Warden," drawing 16 million viewers. Director Yoon Ga-eun received critical acclaim for "The World of Love" as the best independent film of last year, also achieving meaningful results at the box office with 200,000 viewers nationwide.
The 24th Director's Cut Awards will be hosted by directors Kim Cho-hee, Bong Man-dae, and Jang Hang-jun, and will take place on May 19 at 6:00 PM.
