Actress Lim Ji-yeon of 'My Royal Nemesis' is set to conquer 21st-century home shopping, armed with the spirit of a 'Joseon villain.'
Premiering this Friday, May 8, the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'My Royal Nemesis' (written by Kang Hyun-ju, directed by Han Tae-seop) is a war-like romantic comedy between Shin Seo-ri (played by Lim Ji-yeon), an unknown actress possessed by the soul of the legendary Joseon-era villain Kang Dan-shim (played by Lim Ji-yeon), and Cha Se-gye (played by Heo Nam-jun), a conglomerate heir known as a "capitalist monster." The drama has garnered significant attention since its production phase, as Lim Ji-yeon, known for her unparalleled ability to embody unique characters, takes on a full-fledged comedic role.
On the 6th, the production team of 'My Royal Nemesis' released stills of the protagonist Shin Seo-ri's bizarre home shopping part-time job, capturing the attention of prospective viewers.
In the released photos, Lim Ji-yeon has perfectly transformed into Shin Seo-ri, possessed by the soul of the 'Joseon villain' Kang Dan-shim, engaged in a desperate yet hilarious struggle for survival. From exuding a "crazy-eyed" aura while holding a Chinese textbook to showing off her muscles with uncontrollable power while selling beverages, she displays a manic obsession with achieving a "sell-out," bringing laughter to viewers.
In the drama, Seo-ri is expected to become a "sell-out goddess of home shopping," utilizing the flashy knife skills and martial arts she honed as a palace maid in the past, along with fluent Chinese, to sell everything from kitchenware to study materials.
According to a production staff member, Lim Ji-yeon made the set a sea of laughter during filming by perfectly executing high-level Chinese pronunciation, as well as unreserved "mukbang" (eating broadcast) scenes, kicks, and knife skills. Director Han Tae-seop also expressed strong confidence, stating, "The home shopping scene is one of Lim Ji-yeon's top three comedic performances."
Attention is focused on whether Lim Ji-yeon, who has previously showcased intense charisma and delicate emotional acting, will be able to claim the title of the "New Comedy Queen" through this work.
Meanwhile, 'My Royal Nemesis,' which will feature the high-stakes romance between Lim Ji-yeon and Heo Nam-jun, will premiere on Friday, May 8, at 9:50 PM, following 'Phantom Lawyer.'
