Attorney and TV personality Seo Dong-joo (42) revealed that her hard-won pregnancy through IVF ended in a missed miscarriage, sharing her heavy heart with fans.
In a video posted on April 2 on her YouTube channel, she said, “Today, after a missed miscarriage, I had a D&C and said goodbye to Chilboki,” delivering the difficult news. “I wanted to protect this baby no matter what. I got daily injections, took my meds and suppositories, checked my bloodwork number by number―did everything I possibly could. I went on walks, ate clean, and never skipped my supplements. Maybe it just wasn’t the right time.”
Earlier, through YouTube updates, Seo cautiously shared her HCG levels after IVF. She said she saw two lines on a home test after the embryo transfer, but the HCG didn’t show normal doubling, leaving her in a stretch of anxious waiting. She gave the baby the nickname “Chilboki” and held on with hope―until she ultimately had to share the news of a missed miscarriage.
Seo also opened up about the swirl of emotions that hit her―sadness and relief at once. “In the middle of a grief so deep I can’t measure it, a thought flashed by: ‘Ah, the long eight-week wait is finally over.’ Feeling that way made me think I was being selfish, and that hurt me all over again,” she admitted.
She thanked those around her―and her subscribers―for their support during this time. “It’s amazing and so warm that even without knowing each other’s names, faces, or lives, we can still understand and embrace one another. I’m truly, sincerely grateful,” she said. “I wondered if I could carry a life to the end when I struggled with this much pain and waiting. You don’t need to endure suffering to ‘qualify’ as a mom, but I did feel my heart getting a little stronger as I moved through this.”
Despite the fear, Seo said she wants to try for pregnancy again. “I’m terrified I’ll have to go through the same thing,” she shared. “But there’s still a feeling inside me that’s a little bigger than that fear―the wish to try again, the wish to believe again. When my body is ready, I’ll carefully give it another go. I don’t know where this road leads, but now that I know I’m not alone, I’m a little less afraid than before.”
Seo married Ji Young-seok, who works in management and is four years her junior, in June last year.
