Why Nam Hyun-hee Shared 5-Year-Old KakaoTalk Logs: "Plenty of Cheating Evidence―I'll Reveal Everything"

Fencing Olympic gold medalist Nam Hyun-hee (44) has accused her ex-husband of cheating and posted parts of a 2021 KakaoTalk chat. It comes about three years after she made their split public. Fans are now asking why she’s choosing to share private family matters that hadn’t surfaced before.

On the 9th, Nam uploaded what appears to be a KakaoTalk exchange dated August 30, 2021, to her social media.

The messages include lines like “I’m home. You’re probably asleep. Good night,” and “Yeah. You worked hard too. Fighting,” which read as affectionate. Nam wrote that the chat was “a conversation between a married man and the other woman that continued since 2021,” adding, “I divorced because of this other woman.”

“I let it go once, but there was more cheating after that,” she said, adding that people have blamed her for the divorce. She also claimed, “The other woman is still teaching kids at a school” and “has shown no remorse.”

Nam previously revealed via social media around August 2023 that her 12-year marriage had ended. Rumors swirled, but soon reports surfaced that she was engaged to Jeon Cheong-jo. As nonstop coverage followed about Jeon’s fake credentials, fraud record, and crimes, public attention on Nam’s divorce faded.

Even so, Nam is revisiting the events around the divorce from three years ago because she wants “to set everything straight now,” according to those around her.

A source close to Nam told SBS Entertainment News, “Her 2023 social media post announcing the breakup wasn’t her decision. Jeon Cheong-jo took her phone without her knowing and unilaterally uploaded it to isolate her and carry out fraud.”

The source continued, “Nam discovered in 2021 that her then-husband and the other woman were having an affair. There was a lot of KakaoTalk evidence, and she was deeply shocked. In front of Nam, the other woman begged for forgiveness, saying, ‘I did something I never should have done,’ ‘You must hate me, but please forgive me,’ and ‘I’ll take responsibility even with my life.’ But the affair continued. While Nam was mentally shattered, Jeon approached her through an academy. She became the target of an intelligent fraud scheme. Now, she wants to reveal everything and correct the record.”

Nam’s side also emphasized that the other woman is “a professional who teaches children,” hinting at further disclosures to come.

Meanwhile, Jeon Cheong-jo’s 13-year prison sentence for fraud has been finalized, and she is currently serving time. Nam received a no-charge decision regarding suspicions that she aided or abetted Jeon’s fraud, and in the subsequent damages suit, the court recognized Nam as a victim who was also deceived by Jeon.

The ex-husband’s side has not responded to Nam’s claims of infidelity. SBS Entertainment News reached out to A, the ex-husband, multiple times for comment but did not receive a reply.
