Olympic gold medal fencer Nam Hyun-hee (44) spoke out about why her previous marriage fell apart, saying she plans to “reveal everything.”
On the afternoon of the 9th, Nam shared a KakaoTalk exchange from August 30, 2021 on her social media. The messages read, “I’m in. You’re probably sleeping well. Good night,” with a lips emoji. When the other person asked, “Are you on your way?” the reply came back, “I’m here. Good job today,” and the other person answered, “Yeah. You too. Fighting.”
Nam didn’t name who the two people were, but wrote, “This is an ongoing conversation between a married man and his affair partner since 2021.” She added, “I divorced because of this woman. I let it go once, but when they cheated again, I couldn’t endure it. Even so, people keep blaming me for the divorce.”
She continued, “The woman is still teaching at a school and living well. She got caught twice and still hasn’t reflected. It’s so unfair. I’ll release all the materials and tell the truth. I have nothing left to lose.”
Nam married a national cycling team member, identified as A, in 2011 and had a daughter in 2013. In 2023, she revealed the marriage had ended. At the time of the divorce announcement, Nam said she had been “deeply hurt by someone looking outside the family,” which led to speculation that she was holding her ex-husband responsible for the breakup.
It’s unclear why Nam decided to post this now, three years after the divorce.
Back in October 2023, Nam announced plans to marry Jeon Cheong-jo, who had allegedly misrepresented family background and finances as a chaebol heir. After media reports revealed Jeon had prior fraud charges, including marriage fraud, Nam called off the engagement. Jeon was later arrested on fraud charges, tried, and received a confirmed 13-year prison sentence.
During that process, a victim of Jeon’s fraud also filed a fraud complaint and a damages suit against Nam. Nam was ultimately cleared of criminal suspicion, and the civil court recognized that “Nam was also deceived by Jeon Cheong-jo,” ruling in her favor and recognizing her as a victim.
