Actor Park Shin-hye’s mother opens up about the realities of raising a daughter who’s been in the business for 24 years.
On the January 30 episode of SBS’s Friday variety series “Manager Seojin,” the “ratings magnet” Park Shin-hye appears as the show’s 16th featured star.
This week, hosts Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-kyu shadow Park through a glossy photo shoot and her agency’s New Year gathering, playing hyper-attentive “managers” for the day. Park has a long-running rapport with the duo dating back to 2015 through dramas and variety hits, including "Three Meals a Day," so fans were already buzzing about the reunion.
Fresh off successfully tending to singer Namjin in a previous episode, the pair vows to bring back their famously no-nonsense “tough manager” energy. They drop by Park’s makeup room unannounced and keep things loose with playful jabs like, “Guess I’m just the muscle,” and “So, you’re finally getting older.”
But when Park, who’s been fighting off a cold, suddenly looks under the weather mid-shoot, the mood flips fast. The hosts spring into caretaker mode―tracking her symptoms, scouting a hospital, and effectively handling the show’s first full-on sick-day assist. Kim Kwang-kyu even threads a needle himself to do a quick fix for the shoot, proving he’s game for anything to keep things moving.
Once she’s feeling better, Park wraps the shoot and heads to her agency’s New Year party, where the self-proclaimed youngest daughter of a barbecue-restaurant family shows off her pro-level grill skills, keeping the vibes warm and easy.
Park’s parents join the celebration, and her mother delivers the night’s most touching moment, admitting she once slipped to the restroom to quietly wipe away tears after watching her daughter film a slapping scene.
Lee Seo-jin lightens the room with his own “crying on cue” trick, joking that he once spent two straight weeks in tears to nail the emotion.
Can Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-kyu stick to their “tough-love manager” mission without breaking character? Park Shin-hye’s episode of “Manager Seojin” airs tonight at 11:10 p.m. KST on SBS.
