The family of the late comedy icon Jeon Yoo-sung, who passed away last September, has shared their gratitude to comedian Kim Shin-young for staying by his side in his final moments.
On the 28th―Jeon’s birthday―his only daughter, Jeon Jebi, posted a photo with Kim on social media, opening up about missing her father and thanking Kim for the warmth she showed at the end of his life.
“At the tail end of that summer, we spent days crying and laughing together. Maybe our hearts were in the exact same place,” she wrote. “I didn’t witness you sprinting from the annex to the main building that day, but it’s a scene I’ll carry with me for a long time.”
She continued, “I wonder if the memories that bring Dad back to us look similar for both of us. I still see his face from the very end, and that’s so hard. I used to tear up the moment I saw you, but meeting you on his birthday just felt purely good. You’re a rock―like my father’s student, like his friend, and most of all like yourself. Thank you, always.”

Despite a packed schedule, Kim Shin-young remained by her mentor Jeon’s side until the end. Kim studied under Jeon when he taught in the Department of Comedy at Yewon Arts University. Even after graduating, she stayed close to him, often turning to him for steady, practical advice through tough times.
Kim has spoken before about how Jeon lifted her up when she was struggling with dieting and panic disorder. After she told him, “Professor, I think my moment has passed,” he replied, “Congratulations. Let it pass once, twice, three times―then you become a treasure. You will be a treasure. Just watch,” a message that gave her the courage to push on.
Jeon Yoo-sung died at 9:05 p.m. on the 25th due to a pneumothorax. Renowned for his quick, boundless ideas and deep care for younger comedians, he devoted himself to helping countless talents grow into stars.
