After School alum and actress Nana has been cleared in a countersuit tied to a violent struggle with a home intruder. Police concluded her actions amounted to legitimate self-defense and chose not to refer the case for prosecution.

Guri Police in Gyeonggi Province said on the 16th that they closed the case against Nana, who had been booked on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated assault, issuing a non-referral decision. Investigators determined she acted to protect herself and her family in a life-threatening emergency, which meets the legal standard for self-defense.

The countersuit stemmed from a complaint filed last December by a man in his 30s, identified as A, who was already in custody on robbery charges. From jail, he claimed Nana injured him with a weapon, prompting police―per procedure―to question Nana as a suspect.

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on November 15 of last year. According to police, A used a ladder to enter the balcony of Nana’s home in Acheondong, Guri, then assaulted Nana’s mother in the living room while demanding valuables. Investigators say A was armed at the time.

Awakened by screams, Nana rushed in to shield her mother and fought with the intruder. During the struggle, A suffered a jaw injury. Early on, police detained A on suspicion of aggravated robbery causing injury, while also indicating that Nana and her mother’s actions likely constituted self-defense.

A later insisted he had no weapon and accused Nana of attempted murder, filing a countersuit and requesting a detention review, but the court rejected both. Police ultimately confirmed the weapon belonged to A and dismissed claims that Nana’s side had distorted evidence.

A police official said that after completing Nana’s questioning on the 8th, they reviewed the timeline, CCTV footage, statements, and medical records. They concluded the force used was defensive in the face of an immediate threat to life and safety, and notified the parties of the decision not to refer the case.

Nana had previously told fans the countersuit left her emotionally drained. Her agency, Sublime, also criticized the intruder for causing further harm without remorse and vowed a firm legal response.

Meanwhile, A has been indicted on charges of aggravated robbery causing injury, with his first trial set for January 20.
