Kim Seon-ho & Go Youn-jung Show Sparkling Chemistry in Netflix's 'Can This Love Be Translated?'

At a press conference in Seoul’s Gangnam district on January 13, Kim Seon-ho and Go Youn-jung opened up about their on-screen rhythm in Netflix’s "Can This Love Be Translated?"

Go looked back on filming with a grin: “All I remember is how much fun we had. Watching Seon-ho sunbae enjoy every moment made me think, ‘When I’ve been in this as long as he has, I want to act like that.’ Standing next to him and trying to match that energy, I learned so much on set.”

"Can This Love Be Translated?" follows multilingual interpreter Joo Ho-jin (Kim Seon-ho), who’s assigned to global superstar Cha Mu-hee (Go Youn-jung), kicking off an unpredictable romantic comedy. The series is penned by the Hong Sisters―Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran ("Alchemy of Souls," "Hotel del Luna," and more)―and directed by Yoo Young-eun ("Bloody Heart").

Kim returned the praise, highlighting Go’s generous spirit on set: “She opens up first―to the cast, to the crew―so everyone feels welcome.”

He also applauded her instincts: “She’s an excellent actor. She absorbs direction fast and has real screen sense, which steers a scene in the right way. Mu-hee is kinetic while Ho-jin is more still―without her ‘action,’ there’s no ‘reaction’ from me. Because she drove those moments so well, my reactions landed.”

And beyond the craft, Kim added simply, “She has a great personality.”

Their synergy impressed director Yoo, too. “A week after we started, we headed to Japan. Early overseas shoots can be risky for a production because the actors’ chemistry might not be locked in yet,” Yoo said. “But the minute we started in Japan, I thought, ‘We’re good.’ From there, the two just kept getting more in sync. It was a joy to shoot―their chemistry is truly top-tier.”

With swoony rom-com sparks from Kim and Go―and globe-trotting locations across Japan, Canada, and Italy―"Can This Love Be Translated?" premieres January 16 on Netflix.
