YouTube comedy channel Psick Univ has issued an apology and said it is removing a segment from a recent video after backlash over a comment involving a chef from Netflix’s "Culinary Class Wars 2".
In a pinned comment posted Jan. 12, the team wrote, “We apologize for remarks about a chef who does not appear in this video. We attempted to delete the segment, but due to system issues the process has been delayed. We’ll resolve it as quickly as possible.”
The controversy stems from a Jan. 11 upload titled “Asking ‘Napoli Mafia’ Who Won 'Culinary Class Wars' Season 1.” The episode features Season 1 winner Napoli Mafia (Kwon Sung-joon) chatting with Jung Jaehyung, Kim Minsu, and Lee Yongju.
During the conversation, Kim Minsu brought up “Little Tiger” Kim Si-hyun, a breakout Season 2 contestant, asking Napoli Mafia if he knew her. When he replied he didn’t know her personally, Kim followed up by asking if he had her phone number.
Napoli Mafia, looking taken aback, noted she was born in 2000. Kim Minsu, born in 1991, brushed it off and, switching to English, said something to the effect of, “Hi, Little Tiger. I’m a grown tiger. I like you―let’s go on a date sometime.”
As criticism mounted, Psick Univ moved to excise the offending portion. The channel previously faced heat over comments about Yeongyang County, later apologizing and supporting local events there for two consecutive years.
