Director Yoon Ga-eun, who helmed "The World of Love", explained why she penned a handwritten “no spoilers” note to the press.

In a recent interview for "The World of Love", Yoon addressed the letter distributed at the press screening: “Asking reporters to write about the film while not revealing the story felt contradictory. I debated not sending it at all. In the end I thought, let’s try anyway―and trust the journalists with the outcome.”

At the Oct. 15 press screening, Yoon handed out a note that read, in part: “This film plays best when you go in blind―without key information about the central character or plot. So that first-time audiences can travel into our heroine’s world free of preconceptions, I’d be grateful if you avoid details that could hint at what she went through in the past.”

Her ask landed. Critics familiar with Yoon’s body of work―and eager to champion one of Korea’s leading filmmakers―largely honored the request.

That momentum is spreading to general audiences. Early moviegoers are flooding social media with praise while launching a self-imposed “no spoilers” challenge, keeping potential giveaways out of capsule reviews and urging others to see it cold.

In "The World of Love", prejudice and preconceived notions aren’t just themes on-screen―they shape how the film should be experienced. Going in with a blank slate maximizes both the surprises and the emotional payoff, which is why early viewers are rallying behind the no-spoilers push.

The film follows Joo-in, an enigmatic 18-year-old who sits somewhere between social butterfly and attention seeker. After she alone refuses to sign a petition backed by the entire school, mysterious notes begin to arrive―and everything spirals from there. It’s Yoon’s first feature in six years following "The World of Us" and "The House of Us," and it’s already drawing “film of the year” buzz.

"The World of Love" opened Oct. 22 in Korea and crossed 30,000 admissions nationwide in five days.
