Renowned Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho took to live commentary for Son Heung-min's first professional championship game.
On the 22nd (Korean time), Bong Joon-ho appeared on commentator Park Moon-sung's YouTube channel 'Dalsu Live' alongside broadcaster Kim Shin-young. Bong provided live commentary for the UEFA Europa League (UEL) final between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, which took place in the early hours of the day. 'Live commentary' refers to describing and reacting to the game without broadcasting the actual video due to copyright issues.
This event came about from a promise made by Bong Joon-ho during a March appearance on 'Dalsu Live' ahead of the premiere of his film 'Mickey 17.' At the time, Bong had said, "Call me back if Tottenham makes it to the final." At that point, Tottenham had just reached the quarter-finals. Two months later, Tottenham was in the final, and Bong kept his promise by showing up at the 'Dalsu Live' studio on the day of the final.
Bong mentioned, "I only slept for about three hours. Tottenham wins with an own goal," predicting "(Son Heung-min's) entry in the second half."

Son Heung-min was substituted in at the 22nd minute of the second half. As Son took to the field, Bong stood up and applauded. Commentator Park Moon-sung joked, "It feels like we're at the Cannes Film Festival with the director standing up and clapping." Bong humorously responded, "Let's not talk about movies at such a crucial moment," eliciting laughter.
Tottenham clinched the victory over Manchester United with a final score of 1-0, thanks to a goal by Brennan Johnson. Son Heung-min, who debuted professionally in 2010, lifted his first championship trophy, overcoming years without a title.
After the game, Bong expressed, "This will be an unforgettable memory for life." Park revealed, "Bong has agreed to come back if Tottenham makes it to the Champions League round of 16 next season."
A photo posted by Park after the broadcast showed Bong mimicking Son Heung-min lifting the championship trophy, albeit with a bottle of booze instead of a trophy.
