[SBS Star] SHINee KEY Talks About Coping with the Loss of JONGHYUN

KEY of K-pop boy group SHINee shared how difficult it was for him when his group member JONGHYUN passed away.

On February 12 episode of tvN's television show "You Quiz on the Block," KEY made a guest appearance. 
On this day, KEY revealed, "Including my trainee days, I've been in this industry for 20 years," and recalled a significant event that happened along the way.

It was the sudden passing of JONGHYUN, a member who had been actively promoting alongside him.

Reflecting on that time, KEY opened up about his struggles, saying, "I was completely devastated. I kept thinking to myself, 'What's the point of all this? Should I just quit everything?'" 

He continued, "I was in a really bad place, but the Tokyo Dome concert gave us a chance to come together and get through it as a group. I felt like if we didn't have a moment to honor him, it would have been too difficult emotionally. We wanted to send off JONGHYUN's shiny but short youth that way." 

He added, "Every year, when his birthday or anniversary comes around, I miss him so much. And when we record new songs that he can't be part of, I find myself thinking, 'He would've done so well on this part.'" 

KEY then shared, "When I'm practicing for SHINee's performances, JONGHYUN often shows up in my dreams. He doesn't say anything—he's just there, whether it's at a concert or meeting. So I always feel like he's still with us. SHINee's always been five, and we'll forever be five."
JONGHYUN debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008, quickly gaining widespread love and admiration. 

However, on December 18, 2017, he tragically passed away at the age of 27.
