[SBS Star] VIDEO: Koo Hye Sun Opens Up About Her Jealousy Towards Same-Aged Nam Sang Mi

Actress Koo Hye Sun admitted she used to be jealous of same-aged actress Nam Sang Mi.

Professor Cho Sung-jae of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) uploaded a YouTube video featuring Koo Hye Sun on January 12.

While discussing how comparing oneself to another leads to an unhappy life, Koo Hye Sun shared her insights.
"I think the desire to be like someone else can be a motivation. I believe it's important to make enough comparisons between you and that person, precisely assess your ability, and then work hard to reach the level the person you aspire to be is at.", Koo Hye Sun said.

"If a person who settled for their ability found someone better than themself and feel inferior, the feeling itself will not be helpful."

"After fully experiencing the feeling of inferiority and envy towards the person, you need to figure out how far the gap between you and them is. You can reach their level only if you desire to be as good as that person.", the actress remarked.
Koo Hye Sun then talked about her experience of feeling jealous towards a fellow actress.

"I felt jealous of several stunning actresses about my age when I first debuted. I remember being jealous of Nam Sang Mi; she and I are the same age, and we both were known as 'ulzzangs' (good-looking) before debuting."

"She rapidly became successful. Her TV series' were hits, and her performance got compliments as she was good at acting. I envied her a lot."

"I was resolved to work with her someday. I ended up writing a scenario for her and made a film in which she plays the main character.", Koo Hye Sun said, referring to her 2012 film 'The Peach Tree'.
Koo Hye Sun resumed, "Observing Nam Sang Mi on a monitor every day during the filming allowed me to learn her performance style. It was better than watching her through a completed work because I get to see her attitude and how she developed in the process."

"Working together made as a team. When we visited a theater to meet the audience as part of the promo, Nam Sang Mi tightly held my hand as we went up on the stage. Through all that, I think we became a team that shares the same destiny.", she remarked.

The actress added, "I have a lot of jealousy in me. But because of that jealousy, I'm motivated to work with the ones I'm jealous of. It lets me learn from them and give what I can to them."
