The deadline for the voluntary removal of protest materials has been extended as some demonstrators remain in the area around the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium, which was occupied following the shortage of ballot papers in the June 3 local elections.
The Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO) posted eviction notices around the handball gymnasium today (November 6), announcing that the voluntary removal deadline has been extended to November 12 and requesting that unauthorized installations be cleared before then.
The foundation stated, "If compliance is not met within the deadline, we may review and proceed with necessary legal measures, such as claims for the removal of obstructions based on facility management rights and requests for provisional injunctions."
It remains uncertain whether the demonstrators will pack up their belongings and leave as instructed.
The original deadline for voluntary removal was until yesterday.
However, around 1 p.m. today, past the deadline, some demonstrators' tents, tarps, and banners remained unremoved and in place.
About 20 demonstrators also gathered in front of Gate 1-3, the main entrance of the gymnasium, chanting slogans such as "Rerun the fraudulent election."
While some participants in the occupation have been leaving one by one, bringing the "blockade protest" largely to a phase of completion, action by the foundation against the remaining demonstrators is still deemed necessary to normalize the functions of the stadium and park.
Sports organizations that use the gymnasium as their office also maintain that the facility management authority should clear out the remaining protesters and proceed with cleanup operations to ensure the swift normalization of business operations.
