A man in his 30s who murdered a Japanese woman in her 20s at an officetel in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, was referred to the prosecution service today (the 6th).
The Cheonan Seobuk Police Station in South Chungcheong Province has formally sent the man in his 30s, identified as A, to the prosecution service under detention on murder charges.
Leaving the police station detention center, A did not answer any questions from reporters, such as "Why did you kill her?" and "Why did you go all the way to Cheonan?"
On the 28th of last month, A stabbed and killed B, a Japanese woman in her 20s who was staying temporarily at an officetel in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, and fled over 100 kilometers to Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, before being apprehended by police the following day.
According to the police investigation, A had decided to take his own life out of despair after losing around 5 million won in stock investments, and planned the crime in advance.
Initially, A stated, "I was afraid to die alone, so I tried to die together." However, after deploying profilers and conducting a digital forensic analysis of the victim's mobile phone, the police found that the two had met only three times and had no emotional exchange whatsoever.
Consequently, the police concluded that it was a "premeditated lone crime" in which A, facing suicide, targeted the victim toward whom he held unrequited affection and brutally murdered her.
The police plan to continue additional related investigations even after forwarding A.
