Why Did a Vietnamese Prodigy Choose South Korea?
Hoang Huong Giang, a Vietnamese prodigy who recently drew widespread attention for her decision to study in South Korea. After topping the national university entrance exam in Vietnam and achieving a perfect score on the SAT, she chose KAIST in South Korea over prestigious universities in the U.S. or Europe. She made this decision because she determined it was a great environment to study artificial intelligence and computer engineering, fields she is passionate about. Rather than just focusing on grades, Giang expressed her ambition to apply the knowledge she learns through research to the real world, adding that she hopes to continue her research activities by working at a South Korean company after graduation if the opportunity arises.
Like Giang, the number of foreign students coming to South Korea, including talented individuals from overseas, is increasing every year. The number of international students, which was around 150,000 in 2020, has surpassed 300,000 this year. As young people from all over the world gather to experience South Korea's education and culture, the landscape of university towns is changing.
