Cheong Wa Dae stated regarding the US midterm election results that "the South Korea-US alliance is a relationship that has firmly developed over more than 70 years with bipartisan support from the United States, and we believe that any specific election outcome will not affect the alliance."

Kang Yu-jung, senior spokesperson for Cheong Wa Dae, held a briefing at Cheong Wa Dae today (November 5) and gave this response when asked about the potential impact of the midterm election results on South Korea-US relations, investment in the US, and tariffs.

This marks effectively the first official position issued by Cheong Wa Dae following the Republican Party's crushing defeat in the US midterm elections.

Senior Spokesperson Kang emphasized, "In order to ensure the continued development of the South Korea-US alliance, the government will continue to communicate closely and cooperate with the US administration and Congress while analyzing changes in the political landscape following these midterm elections."

She added, "Meanwhile, regarding investment in the US, the government will continue to pursue strategic investments in the US based on agreements between South Korea and the United States, while reviewing individual matters under the principle of 'putting the national interest first' and in accordance with commercial rationality and relevant procedures."

However, she noted that discussions regarding the US midterm election results were not addressed during the meeting of senior secretaries and aides chaired by President Lee Jae-myung earlier today.
