Kim Jong-cheol, Chairman of the Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC), delivered a congratulatory address at the 22nd SBS D Forum, pledging to establish a foundation that enables all citizens to actively participate in the media ecosystem amid the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking at the SBS D Forum held on the morning of November 5 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, Chairman Kim said, "I believe the theme of 'sovereignty of thought' raised by this year's SBS D Forum delivers a very timely and weighty message at this critical juncture."

Chairman Kim observed, "We are now relying on AI even for 'judgment' and 'decision-making,' which were once believed to be uniquely human domains," adding, "We are witnessing a destabilization of our 'sovereignty of thought'—our capacity to think and decide for ourselves."
Regarding the forum's theme, Chairman Kim noted, "The 'Basic Media Society Together with the People,' proclaimed as the inaugural vision of the KMCC, embodies our commitment to creating a foundation where every citizen can actively participate in the media ecosystem," emphasizing that "it closely aligns with the theme of this forum."
Chairman Kim stressed, "We will build a safe and trustworthy media environment so that citizens are not trapped solely within algorithm-recommended information and can cultivate well-balanced public discourse."
He also added, "We will solidify digital welfare to ensure that socially vulnerable groups are not left behind by sophisticated media technologies and AI."

Concluding his address, Chairman Kim emphasized, "Deciding what to entrust to AI and what to retain as a uniquely human realm is the most solemn task before us."
Earlier, at a breakfast gathering on October 2, Chairman Kim addressed the dual nature of the AI era, remarking, "While humans will enjoy a positive life by relying on AI going forward, looking at the flip side, it may also present a harsh reality dominated by AI."
