A Taekwondo dojo director in his 40s has been booked by police in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, for allegedly injuring an elementary school student by striking him on the head with a mobile phone because the child used his phone inside a vehicle.

The Jinju Police Station is investigating a man in his 40s, identified as A, the director of a Taekwondo dojo in Jinju, on charges of child abuse under the Child Welfare Act.

A is accused of striking the head of an elementary student, identified as B, who was riding in the passenger seat, about 10 times with a mobile phone on October 29 while driving students home in the dojo vehicle, under the pretext that B violated the rule prohibiting mobile phone use inside the vehicle.

Due to the incident, student B suffered injuries to his head and received hospital treatment.

At the time, other students, including B's older sister, were also riding in the back seat of the vehicle.

The incident came to light after B's sister, who was in the vehicle, filmed the situation on her mobile phone, and a post and video containing details of the assault were uploaded to social media.

The released video clearly captures rough language from a man presumed to be A, along with the sound of someone being struck with an object.

A police official stated, "We have booked A on child abuse charges and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident."
